Mike Young and his coaching staff got another win on Sunday afternoon when Wofford forward Keve Aluma announced he would transfer to Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound big man made the announcement on Twitter.

“I would like to thank Wofford and my teammates for two of the best years of my life,” Aluma said in his tweet. “After talking with my family and considering all the options, I have decided to attend Virginia Tech. At VT I have found the best academic opportunities and an outstanding coaching staff.”
Aluma will fill a hole in Virginia Tech’s roster that could be left by Kerry Blackshear, Jr.’s departure. Blackshear has entered his name in the NCAA’s transfer portal as well as the NBA Draft, but could return to Virginia Tech if he feels that is his best option.
Should Blackshear choose to leave Blacksburg, Aluma could replace him in the Hokies’ starting five. He would be the tallest player on Tech’s roster and fit a role that the Hokies are lacking at currently.
Currently a sophomore, Aluma played in 14 games this past season. He averaged 6.1 points per game and 6.4 rebounds in each contest. While he’s not the scorer that Blackshear is, their rebounding numbers are comparable as Blackshear averaged 7.5 rebounds per game last season.
Aluma could possibly receive a waiver to sit out this upcoming season and play his final two seasons of eligibility due to the coaching change. Aluma is the second player to follow Mike Young to Wofford, joining recruit Hunter Cattoor, who signed with the Hokies last month after initially committing to Young and the Terriers.
