Virginia Tech extended a few new offers over the weekend at their Junior Day including one to 2023 DB/LB Caleb Woodson out of Battlefield HS in Haymarket, Virginia.
The offer was Woodson's first though it seems very likely that more offers are coming soon with Penn State, Maryland, Duke, Liberty, ODU, and Marshall all showing interest in him. The interest in him shouldn't come as a surprise given that he was a First Team All-State DB this past season.
Woodson had this to say though about his reaction to receiving his offer from Virginia Tech.
"Felt great, great facilities and beautiful campus. All the coaches are very welcoming and genuine," Woodson said.
Woodson received the offer during a meeting with head coach Brent Pry during his Junior Day visit and had this to say about how that meeting went.
"It was a great meeting. I love the culture Coach Pry is building," Woodson said.
Tech offered Woodson at the star position which is a hybrid linebacker/defensive position of sorts which seems somewhat reminiscent of the whip linebacker we've seen in past Bud Foster defenses. Woodson feels that he would also be a very good fit in that role if he ends up at Virginia Tech.
"I can contribute to the team playing that position. I can play downhill on the run, cover a slot and tight end, and be a factor in blitz packages," Woodson said.
Beyond the offer and hearing about how Tech would use him on their defense, Woodson's visit went well as a whole.
"I enjoyed it, great environment and a beautiful campus. The coaching staff is great, very welcoming, and gives off an 'at home' feel," Woodson said.
While there was plenty that impressed him, the family environment stood out the most to Woodson from his time at Virginia Tech.
"The sense of family at Virginia Tech, and I felt that with all the coaches and all the staff I met," Woodson said.
Keep an eye on Caleb Woodson as Virginia Tech continues to prioritize the Commonwealth of Virginia and its talented players like Woodson on the recruiting trail.
