One week after extending an offer to him, Virginia Tech landed a commitment from offensive tackle Hannes Hammer out of North Cross School in Roanoke, VA.

Hammer becomes Tech's third commit in the 2023 class alongside three-star OL Lance Williams and three-star DE Jason Abbey. He also is the second OL commit along with Williams and second in-state commit along with Abbey albeit Hammer's home country is Germany. His arrival will make him Tech's second German on their offensive line along with Danijel Miletic.
The Hokies are currently the only Power 5 offer for Hammer, but more Power 5 offers seemed likely to be on the way with Hammer telling us that he's also been receiving interest from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Baylor, Indiana, UVA, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, and more. Those offers still may arrive, but Tech has clearly gotten the job before any other school could tempt him elsewhere without Hammer committed to VT first.
We will have more as this story develops.
