Virginia Tech has a rich tradition of brothers playing their college football careers at Lane Stadium. There have been plenty of families who have gotten to be part of that tradition from the Fullers to the Edmunds to the Hollifields and many more.
The 2025 cycle presents opportunities for more families to join that tradition with one of those families being the Woodsons with STAR LB Caleb Woodson being a true freshman this fall and 2025 DB Cole Woodson having the opportunity to join his brother in the future.
For Cole Woodson, having the chance to play with his brother at VT adds plenty of appeal to the Hokies' pitch.
"Well considering that Virginia Tech had a long history of successful sets of brothers on their team, it does appeal to me in a strong way. And the opportunity to play with my brother is something that just seems cool to me," Woodson said.
For now, the Hokiea are the only offer for Woodson though that offer is committable as he told us. It also likely won't be his last offer with Wake Forest, Duke, West Virginia, UVA, JMU, Liberty, and Old Dominion all showing interest him.
Tech is recruiting him the hardest currently with Shawn Quinn leafing the charge for the Hokies just as he did with his brother Caleb Woodson. Cole Woodson had this to say about his relationship with Quinn.
"My relationship with Coach Quinn is already very strong because I have known and talked to him since my freshman year when he began to recruit my brother to play for him. So I already feel like I know him well and he knows me and my family," Woodson said.
Currently, Tech is recruiting Woodson as a DB with their eyes intrigued to see how he continues to develop to help determine whether he profiles more as a CB or a safety as he described to us.
"Well they are recruiting me on the defensive side of the ball for sure, but they aren’t 100% sure between corner or safety as I had played corner my sophomore year, but it’s been brought up that I may have grown into more of a safety," Woodson said.
Regardless of whether he's a CB or a safety, there's no doubt that Woodson has tons of talent. He had this to say on the strengths of his game that have helped him earn a Hokies' offer along with his current weaknesses.
"I think that some of my strengths are that I am versatile, smart and have good game and situational sense along with having great speed. A weakness of my game is that my lateral movement is not as good in comparison to my straight line speed which I consistently work on," Woodson said.
Could the Woodsons be the next family to expand the brother tradition at Virginia Tech? Well the Hokies are putting in the work early on in Cole Woodson's recruitment to make that a possibility.
