I said in my preview that running back was the position that I feel most confident in for this season. That statement was validated mainly through the eye-test, as none of the backs individually padded their stats. Marcellous Hawkins, as expected, did not play in Saturday’s Spring Game, meaning there were more snaps to go around. Jeffrey Overton Jr. has developed into a really good running back. His field vision was really solid, and he showed good ability to put his head down and hit running lanes. He has also, rather noticeably, put on muscle this offseason. Overton finished with five carries, 32 yards, 6.4 yards per carry, a long of 12 yards, and one reception for 19 yards for maroon. Another back that impressed me was Gray Peterson, who finished with 25 yards on seven carries, an average of 3.6 yards per carry, a long of 12 yards for white, and one reception for nine yards.
