On Wednesday evening, Virginia Tech landed a commitment from Belmont SS Pete Daniel. He had "multiple SEC offers" as well per source.

Daniel spent two years at Belmont where he slashed .294/.357/.422 with eight homers and 46 RBI over 108 total games.

He broke out in 2025, though, where he slashed a spectacular .355/.420/.5`4 with five long balls and 32 RBI. He also had 21 stolen bases.

This addition is interesting given that the Hokies have Clay Grady, but my guess is that this is a safety net should Grady get drafted.

Grady and Daniel can, most likely, both slot into second if need be. The versatility of Jared Davis allows movement around the diamond if that is necessary.

I think that Pete Daniel's spot in the order could be up in the air. If Grady is drafted, I think Daniel will likely be a guy that is in the top portion of the lineup. If Grady returns, I think that he will take that spot in the top portion, which would likely move Daniel to the bottom of the order. Since John Szefc likes to have a strong nine hole hitter, I think that may be an appropriate spot.

Daniel is as surefire as it gets, he will start somewhere, whether that's at short, second, or even DH. The Hokies made a big splash with getting this commitment.
