The previous two seasons for the Virginia Tech Baseball team have featured an upperclassmen bat that has carried the weight of leading the team both on and off the diamond.
In 2022, the Super Regional Tech team was led by outfielder Gavin Cross, the 9th overall pick in that summer’s draft, and the now number six overall prospect for the Kansas City Royals.
Last season, it was Jack Hurley, a slugging center fielder who was selected in the third round of the 2023 MLB draft to the World Series runner-up Arizona Diamondbacks.
Now, in 2024, the man set to take the forefront of the Hokies' team is junior third baseman Carson DeMartini.
