FIU DB Transfer Demetrius Hill Provides Insight on "Good" Virginia Tech Visit

Demetrius Hill 1 VT Visit May 2023

Virginia Tech already closed one of their big midweek transfer visitors landing a commitment from Florida DE Antwaun Powell-Ryland. They also hosted FIU Freshman All-American DB Demetrius Hill on a visit this week who has emerged as one of their top DB targets this portal cycle.

So how did Hill's visit to Blacksburg go?

Well, Hill told us that he had a "good" trip to Virginia Tech and that "everything about the place" was the main reason why it was such.

While many visits for high school recruits may be hectic with constant things to do and places to be, visits for transfers can often be more casual and business-like in nature to learn about how the player can fit in with their new team and to build relationships with coaches and players.

For Demetrius Hill, it was more like the latter than the former as he told us that it was a "chill" visit on many fronts. Even with a more laid back visit, Hill still got to spend some valuable time with safeties coach Pierson Prioleau with his time and conversations with the former Super Bowl champion being "good".

There's no doubt that Hill is one of Virginia Tech's transfer DB targets with the Hokies being among the first to offer the FWAA and College Football News 2022 Freshman All-American safety. Tech's primary defensive backfield need is to find an experienced, third safety with Hill fitting that mold perfectly while having three years of eligibility left so he could easily slide into Nasir Peoples' starting job in 2024 as a strong safety.

Hill proved to be a great box-to-box safety with upside and room to grow in coverage after having 95 tackles including 3.5 for loss with 1 sack plus 3 forced fumbles, 1 interception, and 2 pass breakups.

So with all that said, how did this visit impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in his recruitment?

"VT stands high (after my visit)," Hill said. "It's because of the amount of constant communication between us."

Virginia Tech impressed Demetrius Hill on his visit to Blacksburg with the focus now being on closing the deal and landing his commitment.
