While Bhayshul Tuten has claimed the most headlines among Virginia Tech players at the NFL Combine, the best overall display of athleticism among Hokies in Indianapolis may not have come from Tuten but rather WR Jaylin Lane.
While Tuten was running a 4.32 40, Lane wasn’t much slower with an official 40 time of 4.34 which ranked tied for third among WRs behind only Texas’ Matthew Golden (4.29) and Tennessee’s Dont’e Thornton Jr (4.30).
His overall Combine performance also gave him an impressive RAS score of 9.68 out of 10. If you aren’t familiar with what a RAS score is, it’s a metric that evaluates various Combine tests and tries to provide a comparison on the level of athleticism a player has compared to others at their position.
Jaylin Lane is a WR prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored an unofficial 9.68 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 112 out of 3441 WR from 1987 to 2025.

It helps when you rank in the top three in almost every metric at the Combine including 10-yard split (T2-1.50), vertical (3rd-40’’), broad jump (3rd-11’0’’), the three-cone drill (2nd-6.75), and the 20-yard shuttle drill (3rd-4.12). It’s also fascinating that no WR in the last decade has achieved the combination of athletic success in the 40, broad jump, and three-cone drill that Lane reached on Saturday.
Just now catching up on Jaylin Lane's test scores 👀

4.34 in the 40
11' in the broad jump
6.75 in the 3-cone
Checked my numbers - no WR drafted in the last decade has done that #NFLCombine

There’s no doubt that this performance will certainly boost Lane’s draft stock and have plenty of NFL teams looking further at his tape to see what they may or may have missed. That reaction is already happening with some NFL Draft analysts posting Lane highlights on social media as further evidence that the athletic hype is real.
Jaylin Lane with a crazy tight rope.

A 96th percentile athlete at the Combine. pic.twitter.com/LQDQdMchCs
Now the fact that Lane didn’t have the biggest numbers in college and the fact that he is fairly limited as a slot guy due to his size will limit his upside in the NFL Draft. However, Jaylin Lane has likely locked in his spot as a day 3 pick with the potential to go fairly early on that day given his athletic abilities.
Of course, he might have more upside if he was a taller, but his dad jokingly was willing to take the blame for that issue.
Jaylin sorry about your size… I married for love😁…#InDoubtDraft83 pic.twitter.com/g5lucaMwe6

Regardless, it’s clear it was a very good weekend for Jaylin Lane at the NFL Combine.
