VT gets a huge commitment from Nathan Proctor. [Credit: Harley Taylor][/caption]The Virginia Tech Hokies ended 2016 about as well as anyone could have imagined with Virginia Tech football coming back from down 24-0 at halftime to beat Arkansas 35-24 in the Belk Bowl, Virginia Tech men's basketball upsetting #5 Duke by 14 that will have the Hokies in the first top 25 of 2017, and Virginia Tech women's basketball finishing off an undefeated non-conference schedule for the first time in over a decade.
The Hokies ended 2016 in a huge way and now are starting off quite well in 2017 with a big commitment.
Four-star DE/OLB Nathan Proctor from Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland announced at the Under Armour All-America Game that he has committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies. Proctor had a final three of Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Pittsburgh; and had a multitude of other impressive offers including Ole Miss, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida, Missouri, UCLA, North Carolina, California, and numerous more.
Proctor is projected to move to DE for the Hokies but is ranked nationally as an OLB with ESPN ranking him as the sixth best OLB, Rivals ranking him 28th, 247 Sports ranking him ninth, and the 247 Sports Composite ranking him 11th. Among Maryland recruits, ESPN and the 247 Sports Composite both have him third while 247 Sports has him second and Rivals has him seventh. Nationally, Proctor is ranked as the 100th best recruit by ESPN and 148th by both the 247 Sports Composite and 247 Sports.
Proctor is a huge pickup for the Hokies at a position of significant need with Virginia Tech looking to load up at defensive end in this class. Proctor does need to add some weight but one comparison that has been brought up is Dadi Nicolas as a smaller, faster defensive end on the edge though Proctor definitely has the frame to bulk up. There's also a chance that Proctor could end up at OLB depending on how this DE class turns out for the Hokies.
