When James Franklin took the podium for the first time as Virginia Tech's head coach, he made clear that he wanted everyone around his program to "look and feel and operate like a big time program." That includes pushing for lots of changes and upgrades to Virginia Tech's facilities including one major upgrade in particular to the Hokies' Indoor Practice Facility.
Yes, Virginia Tech is finally moving forward with putting heating and air conditioning in its Indoor Practice Facility after a decade without it. The lack of HVAC in the Indoor Facility was something that surprised Franklin when he initially got to Blacksburg. Once the surprise wore off for Franklin, it became a clear priority for him to address on the facility side of things.
"I don't think a lot of people have taken that necessarily serious ‘why do you need heating in an indoor facility’. I've never been in an indoor facility that does not have heating. It actually feels to me colder in the indoor than it does outside I don't know how that's possible, but that's important," Franklin said.
One of the biggest reasons why Franklin wants to get HVAC installed is for player's health.
