Virginia Tech's recruiting surge under James Franklin continued on Monday as the Hokies gained a commitment from former Penn State commit and four-star QB Troy Huhn out of San Marcos, California.

Huhn is the sixth new commit for the Hokies since James Franklin's arrival joining four-star RB Messiah Mickens, four-star TE Pierce Petersohn, and three-star OTs Roseby Lubintus, Marlen Bright, and Maddox Cochrane. All were former Penn State commits except for Cochrane, who was committed to Wisconsin at one point during this recruiting cycle.

Huhn is the only QB commit for the Hokies after three-star QB Cole Bergeron from Louisiana decommitted from Virginia Tech on Monday. Huhn is also now on track to be the first high school scholarship player to sign with Virginia Tech since four-star CB DJ Harvey signed with the Hokies as part of the 2021 recruiting cycle.

For his senior season, Huhn threw for 2,438 yards and 29 touchdowns with a 75% completion rate while also running for 228 yards and eight touchdowns. He has a long list of offers that includes Virginia Tech, Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Washington, Florida State, Auburn, Louisville, Nebraska, UCLA, and many more.

Franklin continues to pull an impressive amount of his former Penn State commits to Blacksburg, revitalizing a Virginia Tech high school class that only had eight commits and ranked outside the top 100 nationally prior to Franklin's arrival.

This also grows speculation about whether Virginia Tech could sign a top 25 class this Wednesday, with Rivals/On3's Steve Wiltfong being among those who believe Franklin and the Hokies might be able to do just that. Landing Huhn only increases those chances further.
