Four-Star WR Micah Matthews Commits to Virginia Tech

Micah Matthews 1 VT OV June 2024

Virginia Tech has made another major splash on the recruiting trail in Virginia as four-star WR Micah Matthews of Bridgewater, VA has committed to the Hokies.

Matthews chose the Hokies over fellow finalists North Carolina, Virginia, and Utah along with other offers from BYU, NC State, Kentucky, Maryland, West Virginia, Rutgers, and more. He is a dual-sport standout who will play both football and baseball at VT, and is as big of an addition for VT Baseball as he is for VT Football. 247 Sports notes that Baseball America ranked him as the 54th best high school baseball player prior to this past HS baseball season.

He is the third WR commit for this class joining a pair of 757 standouts in four-star Matthew Outten and three-star Jayden Anderson. He is also the 11th in-state commit for the Hokies this recruiting cycle.

This is a major recruiting victory for the Hokies, with Matthews being the highest aggregate in-state recruit to choose the Hokies so far this cycle. This also makes the second-straight recruiting cycle during which the Hokies have landed the top 2 in-state WRs in Matthews and Outten after landing four-star WRs Keylen Adams and Chana Wiggins last cycle.

WRs coach Fontel Mines continues to be a recruiting ace for the Hokies, building what is certainly the strongest position group on the roster. In the three full cycle classes, Mines now has six four-star WRs committed or signed with Ayden Greene already breaking through the rotation last season and making an impact.

With Matthews on board, the Hokies likely seem done at WR for this cycle unless four-star WR Shamarius Peterkin out of Winston-Salem were to choose VT. Peterkin is making his decision in August with VT, UNC, and NC State being his finalists.
