Virginia Tech’s strong recruiting stretch has continued with its biggest addition of the summer to date as four-star WR Matthew Outten out of Portsmouth, VA has committed to the Hokies.

Outten has chosen the Hokies over Penn State, Maryland, and Syracuse where he also took official visits along with other offers from Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Carolina, Duke, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Virginia, and more.

He is the second WR commit for the Hokies in this class joining three-star Jayden Anderson out of Virginia Beach. He is also the Hokies’ tenth in-state commit for this class including the fourth from the 757 joining Anderson, three-star CB Knahlij Harrell, and three-star DE Zeke Chinwike.

This is another big recruiting victory for the Hokies who got the last official visit and were able to use that as a launching pad to land his commitment. The Hokies are starting to win more recruiting battles over Penn State to keep recruits in Virginia with this being the latest victory over the Nittany Lions and plenty of other interested Power 4 programs.

WRs coach Fontel Mines continues to be an ace recruiter for the Hokies pushing back big time programs once again to land a four-star WR and further strengthen what is an absolutely loaded room.

With Outten on board, the focus shifts primarily onto four-star WR Micah Matthews out of the Harrisonburg area with this being primarily a VT vs UNC battle, with baseball also being a factor. Four-star WR Shamarius Peterkin out of Winston-Salem, NC also remains a top target who is down to VT, UNC, and NC State. Three-star WR Nasir Newkirk out of Greensboro, NC also took an official visit in late May and is in play for the Hokies.
