While Virginia Tech's WR room is already loaded with both returning and transfer talent, the Hokies also brought in a loaded WR class this past recruiting cycle.
That included four-star WR Shamarius Peterkin out of North Carolina who despite arriving just this summer is already impressing his new coaches and teammates.
The first sign of that came this past Monday during the first portion of practice that was opened to the media. Freshmen who arrive during the summer usually are at the back of the line during drills especially for the first several practices. However, Peterkin was among the third group of outside WRs to get reps during a QB-WR drill, a first sign that Peterkin was already turning heads.
The was validated further on Thursday when both coaches and teammates of his had high praise for him starting with offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.
"He's been pretty impressive up to this point. He got here in the summer, had a lot to learn, needed to get in the weight room, but I will tell you out on the practice field when given opportunities, he’s showed up and he's answered the call. And so we'll see how he continues to develop. Still a young guy, but I've been really pleased with what we've gotten out of with him so far, and I like his maturity," Montgomery said.
WRs coach Fontel Mines also has been impressed by Peterkin including his maturity and confidence that he's brought to the table.
