Hokies Basketball: Three-Star PF Khadim Sy Commits to Virginia Tech

Buzz Williams and the Virginia Tech Hokies put together a strong recruiting class last year with five commits, three out of high school and two out of junior college. With Shane Henry being the only senior, this recruiting class is likely to be small for the Hokies with Buzz Williams likely putting an emphasis on adding size while working on putting together a big Class of 2017. The Hokies got on the board yesterday with their first commit from a big man who took an official visit to the Hokies this past weekend. https://twitter.com/TechSideline/status/658833965747449856 Khadim Sy, a three-star power forward that will be playing at Oak Hill Academy this fall became the first player to commit the Hokies from the Class of 2016. Sy is 6'9''-6'10'' and already is fairly big at around 225 to 230 pounds, which is definitely good for the Hokies to have. The fact that Sy is playing for Oak Hill is a statement about the potential that Sy has. Sy is not one of those players that goes to many of the camps, which makes him more of an unknown, but reports from analysts make Sy seem like a potential sleeper big man in the Class of 2016. There seems to be a general agreement among evaluators that Sy is a hard-working big man that is a quality rebounder, which is important with the Hokies' style. Sy also apparently has some range in his game as someone who can stretch the floor to about 15 feet away from the basket. Khadim Sy may not necessarily have pressure to start immediately for the Hokies with Kerry Blackshear and Satchel Pierce, but Sy also will have the opportunity to play early if he can earn it. Sy may be a fairly big unknown on a national level, but it sounds like the Hokies have made a solid addition to their frontcourt of the future.
