The Virginia Tech Hokies are less than two months away from kicking off the 2015 College Football season against the Ohio State Buckeyes. There are a few position battles that the Hokies still have to decide including slot wide receiver and free safety if Chuck Clark stays at cornerback.
One position that seemed set after this past spring was rover, but that has changed with the news that the
Roanoke Times broke today.
C.J. Reavis is no longer enrolled at Virginia Tech after a student conduct hearing for a reason that is not known to the public. Reavis has also deleted all his tweets on his Twitter account, and is in the process of trying to appeal the decision. Reavis's attorney has also said that there are no criminal issues for his client.
This has not been a good week for the Hokies after Shai McKenzie was sentenced to 15 days in jail and 50 hours of community service. However, I would expect the leadership of this team to keep the players focused on preparing for the season.
Reavis is a big loss for the Hokies after having an impressive spring in which he earned the starting rover job. Reavis was one of the hardest hitters for Virginia Tech and was a very effective player in the box during spring scrimmages. Reavis had the potential to start for the next three seasons, but that won't be happening most likely after this incident.
It would not surprise me if Reavis transfers to a junior college for a year or if the violation is not too severe, he transfers to another program and sits out this fall. However, that could change if Reavis is able to appeal successfully and is able to return to Virginia Tech though he still could face a suspension depending on what the appeal formally does and what the violation is.
For the Hokies, this is a disappointing loss in what has been a tough two-day period for the Virginia Tech football program.
