Rahne's defensive coordinator, Blake Seiler, will bring an experienced side into Blacksburg. They return all but a handful of starters from last year, when they finished 9th nationally in forced turnovers (25). To make matters more difficult for the Hokies' young gunslinger, Franklin mentioned in his weekly press conference on Monday that the Monarchs run a 3-3-5 base defense, a scheme he characterized as one of the more unique systems around. Contending with five defensive backs on the field at any one time could present plenty of problems for Grunkemeyer, who threw four interceptions last season, especially if the offensive line struggles to pass block.
