The Virginia Tech world was stunned this morning when news broke that Governor Abigail Spanberger had dismissed John Rocovich as the Rector of the Board of Visitors of Virginia Tech.
In her formal dismissal letter letter to Rocovich, Spanberger said that Rocovich had "violated the Code of Conduct for Commonwealth Appointees to Boards, Authorities, & Commissions, the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors' Code of Ethics, and the governing statues requiring board members to act in accordance with the best interests of Virginia Tech."
So what led to Rocovich's seemingly sudden demise and what may happen next? Here's what I've been told per a high-level source.
There will be many who wonder if the funding push for athletics or the separate 501(c) entity for athletics played a role in Rocovich's dismissal. This is not the case whatsoever.
