Virginia Tech’s winter transfer portal class is nearing a conclusion, but the Hokies are still looking to add a few more pieces.
That includes a versatile slot WR and kick returner in JMU’s Cam Ross who is currently visiting Virginia Tech according to his agent Parker St Pierre.
This comes as the 5’10’’ Ross took a visit to Virginia earlier today as reported by The Daily Progress’ Greg Madia. He is also planning to take a visit to UCF according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Ross earned All-Sun Belt Third Team honors as a return specialist this past season with 13 kick returns for 366 yards and one touchdown while averaging over 28 yards per kick return. He also had 37 catches for 443 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season with the Dukes. Prior to JMU, Ross spent five years at Connecticut and has one year of eligibility remaining.
For his career, Ross has 151 catches for 1,799 yards and 11 touchdowns in 47 games plus 23 kick returns for 513 yards and a touchdown.
Ross would add experienced depth at both slot receiver and kick returner where the Hokies are seeing Jaylin Lane and Bhayshul Tuten head to the pros. Takye Heath still would likely be the favorite for the #1 pure slot receiver job while Ross could push or surpass Thomas Williams and whoever gets involved in the kick returner battle.
