After a strong freshman season, Josh Jackson was expected to be the starting quarterback next season. However, his status at Virginia Tech is in question according to reports. Mike McDaniel is reporting that Josh Jackson is currently suspended indefinitely. Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch was told by Jackson's father that his son's status will be determined by the end of this week. Virginia Tech has not commented on the status of Jackson. Given the fact that Jackson appears to have some academic questions, Jackson's indefinite suspension is likely procedural at this time. Coming out of this spring, most expected Josh Jackson to continue to be the starting quarterback despite Ryan Willis' strong Spring Game performance. Jackson was one of the top freshman quarterbacks in the country in 2017 with 2,991 passing yards, 20 passing TDs, 6 rushing TDs, 9 interceptions, and a 59.6% completion rate. If Jackson does not return this season or beyond, Ryan Willis is the likely favorite to take over as starting quarterback with redshirt freshman Hendon Hooker also competing for the job. In addition, former Elite 11 QB Quincy Patterson will be arriving this summer though it will be a major challenge for him to earn the starting job given his summer arrival. As this story continues to develop, we will have more updates.
