Landyn Watson, a 2021 four-star DE target for the Hokies out of Texas, was able to visit Blacksburg this past weekend.

From talking to the coaches to taking in some basketball, he says he thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

"It was actually very good," Watson said. "We watched the basketball game and toured everything."

Watson said he got to see the entire campus including football facilities, Lane Stadium, and some classrooms. He added that it was "exciting to see it all."

One important aspect of Watson's visit was the quality time he got to spend with the coaches. In particular, he said he enjoyed getting to talk to head coach Justin Fuente and defensive line coach Bill Teerlinck.

"He's a great guy," Watson said of Teerlinck. "We talked a lot of football."

Meanwhile, Justin Fuente not only impressed Landyn Watson but he also impressed Watson's parents in the time they spent together during Watson's visit.

"It was really fun," Watson said. "He's a great guy and my parents love him."

Football was not the only thing Watson got to talk about while on his visit. Since he wants to major somewhere in the School of Communication, he was able to meet legendary play-by-play broadcaster Bill Roth, who now works as a professor of practice at Virginia Tech.

Watson added that his time spent with people in his potential major was "very fun and exciting to see it all."

One of the things that stood out the most for Watson is the hospitality he felt while he was on campus at Virginia Tech. He added that the main reason the Hokies' hospitality stood out was because of how everyone he met on his visit was "genuine."

The four-star DE said that the visit had a positive impact on his recruitment. As of right now, he feels that the Hokies are "pretty high" in his recruitment.

Currently, Watson holds offers from 19 Power Five schools. The ones who he says are recruiting him the hardest are Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, Penn State, Oregon, and Michigan.

Of those schools, Michigan, Texas Tech, and Penn State are on his list to visit next along with a possible visit to Florida State.

As of right now, Landyn Watson still has a long way to go before making a final decision. However, the Hokies continue to be a top contender for him after his visit to Blacksburg.
