Virginia Tech Bringing Back Former Standout In-State Recruits WIth Great Success

Over the past few years, Virginia Tech has seen plenty of recruits leave the Commonwealth of Virginia for what they see as greener pastures. That was a big reason why the Hokies prioritized someone who could turn the tides and fix their in-state recruiting woes, leading them to hire Brent Pry who had helped Penn State land numerous elite in-state recruits.

As we've seen since then, the Hokies have made huge strides with their in-state recruiting land three of the consensus in-state top 10 recruits in the 2024 cycle while being on pace to potentially repeat and exceed that feat in the 2025 cycle.

Even with those strides, there have still been plenty of talented in-state recruits leave the Commonwealth for what they see as greener pastures. That has Brent Pry still saying that in-state recruiting is not where he wants it to be for the Hokies just yet.

"Not where I want it to be yet. Have we made a lot of progress? Yeah. Are we in a lot more battles and being talked about a lot more? Yes. But I want to be at a place where more of the best players stay home and they recognize they can chase all their dreams right at Virginia Tech and they don’t need to go somewhere else," Pry said.

However, the transfer portal has created opportunities for Virginia Tech to have a second chance to land some of these former standout in-state recruits who didn't find the right fit at their first stop.
