James Franklin and Virginia Tech's transfer portal activity continues to heat up with the Hokies set to host intriguing Louisiana RB Bill Davis on a visit very soon.
Virginia Tech will host Louisiana RB Bill Davis on a visit to Blacksburg tomorrow as his agency The Business of Athletes confirmed to me. KATC's Jamarcus Fitzpatrick (TV reporter in Louisiana) was the first to report the news about Davis' visit, with Fitzpatrick also noting that Kansas State, Iowa State, Colorado, and James Madison are working to try to land a visit from Davis.
Davis was not technically the starting running back either of the past two seasons, but he led the Rajun Cajuns in carries each season. This past season as a redshirt sophomore, Davis ran for 767 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He ran for 796 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry during the 2024 season.
Over the past two seasons, Davis has averaged just over 3.5 yards per carry after contact each season while forcing 31 missed tackles in 2024 and 29 missed tackles in 2025. He earned a 76.0 PFF grade this season past season including a 79.5 rushing grade on his way to earning All-Sun Belt Third Team honors.
He has two years of eligibility remaining.
The 5'9'', 225-pound Davis would be an intriguing power-running addition to Virginia Tech's backfield to join returning starter Marcellous Hawkins and talented redshirt freshman Jeff Overton Jr. Davis would provide some additional competition while he would also help James Franklin achieve his goal of being able to go at least three-deep with quality options and high-ceiling young players at every position.
