The Virginia Tech Women’s Soccer team made their season opener look easy, dispatching High Point 2–0 on the road behind a pair of second-half strikes from returning graduate forward Taylor Price.

The momentum shift came minutes after halftime, when a precise long-range effort from freshman defender Madi Boutot forced an awkward deflection and save from the High Point goalkeeper. Price, showing the sharp instincts that made her a captain, reacted faster than anyone to tuck the deflection into the net for the opening goal. Barely three minutes later, she doubled the lead thanks to a perfectly weighted cross from freshman midfielder Ellie Robertson combined with a composed header from Price into the net.

The stat sheet is a story unto itself: Virginia Tech put up 28 shots to High Point’s 4, with 15 on goal, while piling on 18 shots in the second half alone—enough to make any goalkeeper sweat. Transfer standout Eliana Salama led the team with seven shots, four of them on target, while Price had six total shots with four on target including her two goals. Robertson notched her first collegiate assist on Price’s second goal.

Defensively, the Hokies were just as commanding. Veteran goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove delivered her first clean sheet of the season, as High Point managed just two shots on target and zero corner kicks.

For the second straight year, the Hokies open the season with a 1–0 record. And for the ninth time in as many matchups, Tech has left games against High Point unbeaten—now holding a perfect 9–0 series advantage. With Price firing on all cylinders, the Hokies are off to a strong start this season with bigger games on the horizon.

As the team turns its attention to Saturday’s home opener against VCU at Thompson Field, the message is clear: Virginia Tech is not only loaded with talent but also primed to carry this blend of composure and attacking flair well into ACC play.
