When Brent Pry arrived at Virginia Tech, he made it clear that recruiting the Commonwealth of Virginia was once again going to be the top recruiting priority for the Hokies. That's showing in many ways already with the Hokies looking to get loads of intriguing recruits to campus this spring including 2023 Northern Virginia DE Elijah Hughes.

The good news for Tech is that Hughes is ready to visit and get to know the new staff.

Hughes told us that he will be visiting Virginia Tech for their January 29th Junior Day. This comes after Hughes received an invitation to visit Blacksburg from DL coach J.C. Price with the Hokies starting to show interest as Pry gets his full staff in place.

He gave us this insight as well on the visits he has taken to date and his spring plans.

"I visited Penn State, Duke, Yale, and William & Mary this fall. This spring, I plan on visiting many of the schools that have interest, Virginia Tech on January 29th is the only concrete on so far," Hughes said.

Hughes has also built up a strong group of schools that are interested in him as he shared with us.

"I have received interest from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, UVA, Duke, Boston College, and Coastal Carolina. I have offers from William & Mary and Yale University," Hughes said.

Hughes could be a rising name to watch in the 2023 cycle as his Twitter bio lists him having good size for a DE at 6'3'' and 250 pounds, but he also has big time production to back up the length and athletic metrics after a strong 2021 season.

"I had 113 tackles (90 solo), 14.5 sacks, and 40 TFLs through ten games," Hughes said.

Looking ahead, Hughes told us that he has visited Virginia Tech before as his older brother is a student at VT. He also gave us some insight into what he's hoping to see on his upcoming visit to Blacksburg.

"I’m looking forward to tour their campus and their athletic facilities. I also look forward to meeting the coaching staff," Hughes said.

Keep an eye on Elijah Hughes as an in-state 2023 defensive lineman to watch who could see his recruitment take off this spring.
