The high school recruiting focus may be on the 2024 class, but the Hokies are also starting to lay the foundation for the 2025 cycle. They included hosting talented Northern Virginia RB Jeffrey Overton Jr who had a great visit as he told us.

"The visit was amazing, I really enjoyed myself. The basketball game was a bonus. I had already met coach (Shawn) Quinn, but not coach Stu (Holt), and he was cool. I like what the coaches are doing and building, they care about the kids," Overton said.

So what did Overton do while on his visit?

"We had position meetings, went to the basketball game, did a campus tour and a photoshoot, had a chance to meet all the coaches, spoke to strength and conditioning coach, and ate," Overton said.

Overton did get to spend some brief time with head coach Brent Pry which went well, but he spent the most time with nickels/Sam LBs coach Shawn Quinn who is his area recruiter plus RBs coach Stu Holt. He had this to say about his time and conversations with Shawn Quinn.

"It was good. I had met him a few times prior to coming to the school when he visited for a football game previously and another occasion. He always keeps it upbeat, asks me how I’m doing, tells me to keep up the good work, and that he can’t wait for me to be a Hokie lol. He's cool," Overton said.

As you can tell, there's no doubt about the priority that Overton is for Shawn Quinn among the Northern Virginia recruits under his scope. Meanwhile, his time with Stu Holt also went well and included some time with a former Hokie RB great who was a first round pick.

"It was good. Coach holt talked about how it wasn’t just about football and that they wanted make sure we left better men. We watched some position film and he went over a little bit of what they did as a offense. He talked about how important pass blocking would be at the college level. I met former NFL running back Kevin Jones I believe, and he talked about how good a time he had at Tech," Overton said.

So how did this visit impact his recruitment and view of Virginia Tech?

"The entire process is fun and being able to actually come under the new coaching staff and meet them and talk a little more definitely I feel like helped their chances. I’m grateful and very appreciative of every offer from any coach and I'm just enjoying it all," Overton said.

"Virginia Tech has been a great football program and honestly, I feel like these coaches want to win. I don’t think I have to go to Alabama or Georgia or Ohio State to win because I’m a winner. Not sounding cocky but where I do go, I’m coming to win. I respect all those colleges but when I say that, I mean I’m not chasing offers. I’m blessed and excited for each, and enjoying it knowing I can only choose one. Josh Fuga went to my school and has been around me my entire life and seeing his success drives a lot of our success. So him going there means it’s a great place because he’s a great person. I don’t have to go to the best team because I’m trying to be the best player. I want to go where they want to win."

Virginia Tech impressed 2025 RB Jeffrey Overton Jr with the Northern Virginia standout being a priority offensive target for the next recruiting cycle at the moment.
