Three-Star DE Deric Dandy Commits to Virginia Tech

Cheerleaders 1 VT Miami 2022 HT

Virginia Tech has some recruiting momentum as the Hokies landed a commitment from three-star DE Deric Dandy out of Mount Airy, NC.

Dandy chose the Hokies over at least offers from Louisville and Appalachian State though it wouldn't be surprising if he has more unreported offers given his relatively low profile on social media. Dandy is the second-straight commit for the Hokies after four-star QB Davi Belfort committed to Virginia Tech yesterday.

Dandy was one of the Hokies' top defensive end targets for this class so locking him up early is a great get for VT. While Tech likely will look to add 1-2 more true defensive ends this cycle, getting Dandy on board is a great start to this defensive line class.

In some ways, Dandy almost feels like an in-state addition being from Mount Airy, NC just across the VA-NC border on I-77 and just under 2 hours from Blacksburg. Landing a guy like Dandy also falls in line with how Tech seems to also be pushing heavy into places in their footprint that may have some similarities to VT like east TN or northern and western North Carolina. Landing Appalachia guys who can easily relate to being in Blacksburg is a smart move and has helped Tech land so big time dudes.

As mentioned above, Tech seems likely to look to add 1-2 more DEs with plenty of intriguing names to watch. This includes in-state standouts like Makai Byerson out of Richmond, and Anthony Reddick and Gerard Johnson out of the 757 plus four-star guys from Maryland like Obinna Onwuka and Devon Baxter who both visited this past weekend.

We will have more as this story develops.
