Virginia Tech's in-state recruiting class continues to grow as the Hokies landed a commitment from three-star OL Buddy Wegdam out of Northern Virginia's Woodberry Forest School.
Wegdam chose the Hokies over NC State and Duke, where he also took official visits, plus Michigan State, where he had been looking at taking an official visit to this weekend previously but will obviously not be taking that now. He had this to say about why he chose VT.
"I loved the atmosphere since I got on campus. Also love Blacksburg, the small town feeling really reminds me of home and Woodberry," Wegdam said.
He is the Hokies' fifth commit this cycle including the third in-state addition along with three-star LB Joshua Pittman and three-star DE Kamren Johnson.
Woodberry Forest has been a school where the Hokies historically have struggled, yet that has changed the past two recruiting cycles with VT landing S Sheldon Robinson last cycle and Wegdam this cycle. For all the frustration of this recruiting cycle to date, the Hokies continue to make in-roads with in-state recruiting including at a school where the Hokies historically have struggled.
It's also clear with this commitment that the Hokies' offensive line recruiting is significantly improved with Matt Moore at the helm. Picking up this recruiting victory over NC State, Duke, and Michigan State is a very nice win on the trail for Moore.
We will have more as this story develops.
