Three-star QB Cole Bergeron has decommitted from Virginia Tech, as reported by VT Scoop’s Kolby Crawford and others.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback out of Lafayette, LA, had been committed to the Hokies and Brent Pry’s staff since August, choosing Virginia Tech over Colorado and Georgia Tech and others.
Bergeron was the lone quarterback commitment for Virginia Tech and took an official visit to Blacksburg this past weekend to meet with James Franklin for the first time to outline what his future might look like at Virginia Tech. There weren't too many indicators on if he’d stay or decommit through his process as of late. He did take a visit to Minnesota in early November while Tech was still looking to land James Franklin. Minnesota officially becomes the frontrunner to sign Bergeron.
He is the first decommitment since James Franklin’s arrival. His decision now leaves the Hokies without a quarterback commit for the class of 2026.
A possible reason for him decommitting was the prospect of four-star QB Troy Huhn from San Marcos, CA flipping his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech to follow James Franklin. Huhn will be announcing his decision Monday, December 1st at 1 p.m. on CBS Sports and 247 Sports’ various online platforms.
Cole Bergeron will reopen his recruiting efforts as early national signing day approaches.
