Three-Star S/LB Caleb Woodson Commits to Virginia Tech

Caleb Woodson 1 Jan 15 2022 Junior Day

Virginia Tech made it three commits in three days as the Hokies landed a commitment from talented three-star S/LB Caleb Woodson out of Northern Virginia.

Woodson chose the Hokies over other offers from Wake Forest and UVA where he also took official visits along with offers from Florida State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Temple, and more. He's the third commit in three days for the Hokies joining three-star LBs Tavorian Copeland (6/28) and Aycen Stevens (6/29).

He is the first Northern Virginia commit and sixth in-state commit this cycle for Tech joining DE Jason Abbey and ATH Takye Heath out of the Richmond area, OT Hannes Hammer out of the Roanoke Valley by way of Germany, WR Marcell Baylor out of Radford, and Copeland out Appomattox.

Woodson is another quality addition for the Hokies especially given the win over a pair of nearby ACC rivals in UVA and Wake Forest plus the other quality offers from places like Florida State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Woodson is the type of quality, 11-25ish range recruit in Virginia who the Hokies have built plenty strong classes on a foundation of guys like him in the past but struggled to do so lately. Landing Woodson is a positive step back in the right direction for the Hokies on that front.

He's an intriguing prospect who has great size and a great frame that allows him to project at linebacker or safety with the sam LB spot being the linebacker spot to watch for him should he up in the box instead of back at safety. When Woodson was offered back in January, he told us that Tech was recruiting him at the "star" position which is what is now known as the sam LB position so expect that to be his initial spot though he does have plenty of versatility.

We will have more as this story develops.
