The Virginia Tech Hokies have had a strong weekend on the recruiting trail gaining three commits while also doubling their total number of commits from 6 to 12 in the past two weeks. It had been a perfect weekend for the Hokies, but Virginia Tech has received some bad news this evening. Three-star WR Bryce Thompson from Irmo, South Carolina decommitted from Virginia Tech this evening. The loss of Thompson leaves the Hokies with 11 total commits including 2 wide receiver commits from four-star recruits Tre Turner and Darryle Simmons. Thompson has a solid offer list that includes Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Washington State, NC State, and others. Thompson is rated as a four-star by ESPN ranked 292nd in the nation while Rivals, 247 Sports, and the 247 Sports Composite have him as a three-star. All four of those recruiting rankings also have Thompson ranked as one of the top 10 recruits in the state of South Carolina. At this point, South Carolina is likely to be the favorite given how they are the in-state team. However, the Hokies will try to bring him back in the fold with VT having regained commitments from 3 recruits in the past 3 classes.
