Virginia Tech Wrestling has made their first major transfer portal splash of the offseason, as the Hokies have landed a commitment from Maryland standout Ethen Miller.
Miller is a three-time NCAA qualifier who started 21-0 for Maryland this past season after moving up to 157 pounds. He was the #1 seed at the Big 10 Championships this past season and was one of the best available middleweight wrestlers in the transfer portal this year.
He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
He chose the Hokies after visiting Virginia Tech on Thursday and Friday this past week as I reported. Iowa State was the other primary contender for him, with VT doing more than enough to beat out the Cyclones in the end.
It will be interesting to see how the Hokies figure out their lineup with two of the top 10-15 157lb wrestlers in the country in Miller and ACC champion Rafael Hipolito. Given the fact that Miller just moved up to 157 this past season, a move to 165 for Hipolito seems more likely as of now, but we’ll see how that plays out.
