The most chaotic time of year is upon us: the College Football Playoff rages on while the rest of the country enters the wild, wild west... I mean, the 2026 football transfer portal window. Beginning this offseason, there is only be one transfer portal window for football that opened on January 2nd and runs till January 16th. With that, dozens of programs across the country have a lot of ground to make up in about a two-week span including James Franklin's Virginia Tech Hokies.

In my opinion, quarterback is the most important position for the Hokies to attack this offseason. Sure, wide receiver, offensive line, and linebacker are among the others; however, it is vital to any team's offensive success when they have a steady-handed quarterback at the helm. I have compiled, evaluated, and ranked four potential quarterbacks for Virginia Tech to target in this portal window. I will rank them from best fit to worst fit based upon what I believe Franklin and new offensive coordinator Ty Howle will want to run.

Speaking of, I think it is pretty clear that the new staff wants to run the football effectively, which was something the previous staff also prioritized. However, the most efficient rushing offenses are built upon the foundation of a dual-threat quarterback, which is clearly what the previous staff wanted to do with Kyron Drones. Unfortunately, the passing side of things never developed which left the offense one dimensional and ineffective as Marcellous Hawkins and company could not entirely carry the offense alone. It will be vital to this team's early success for this staff to land a superstar quarterback. Here are some quarterbacks that I think could potentially fit that criteria from true more mobile QBs to pocket passers.

1. Beau Pribula (Missouri): 182/270 (67.4%), 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns, nine interceptions, 23 sacks, 7.4 yards per completion; 95 carries for 297 yards, six touchdowns, and 3.1 yards per carry.
