On Tuesday, Saint Joseph’s 1B/3B Owen Petrich announced via instagram that he was committing to Virginia Tech baseball.
Petrich previously spent two years with St. Joes, where he slashed .314/.372/.517 over 106 starts. He also hit 26 home runs and had 121 RBIs.
He had this to say about why he chose Virginia Tech.
"I was really impressed with the coaching staff and all of the effort they showed they had gone through in recruiting me... I also really love the campus and surrounding areas. [It felt] like a really good place for me to be for my final year of college baseball."
Petrich will likely fit into the starting lineup somewhere in the middle given his mix of average, power, and the ability to not strike out.
He has experience at both corner infield spots, and there is a glaring hole at first base given the departure of Garrett Michel. He could easily fit at either spot, though.
