UL Monroe OL Transfer Peyton Dunn Sets Houston Visit, Was Scheduled to Visit Virginia Tech

VT Corps 7 VT Miami 2022 HT

One of the priorities for Virginia Tech in this spring transfer portal wave is to add an offensive lineman with one of the Hokies' targets being UL Monroe's starting left guard Peyton Dunn. The Hokies have already gained traction with Dunn as he told us.

Dunn has set two visits so far with plans to visit Virginia Tech this upcoming weekend followed by a visit to Houston the weekend after. He added that he's also been receiving interest from Stanford, Louisville, Maryland, Northwestern, and Appalachian State since entering the transfer portal at the opening of this portal window this weekend.

Dunn told us that he received a "great" phone call from the Hokies this weekend to set up his visit to Blacksburg and has plans to speak with Virginia Tech again on Monday ahead of that visit.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Dunn is an in-demand transfer target given that he's a two-year starter at UL Monroe with great size at 6'7'' plus two years of eligibility remaining. He also showed improvement from his first to second season as a starter in the eyes of Pro Football Focus.

While there has been some talk about Virginia Tech looking for an offensive tackle, the Hokies do have an opening on the interior of the offensive line for the right fit. Kaden Moore currently projects as the starting center though he is certainly to start regardless while his younger brother Braelin Moore is poised to start at left guard.

Right guard has been a battle between Jesse Hanson and Bob Schick with the Hokies seeming to want some more competition at minimum and likely an upgrade of some sort for the third starting OL. Dunn would fit right in at guard for the Hokies and could be a two-year starter for them. Meanwhile, Tech has also offered App State Freshman All-American transfer Troy Everett who would slide in well at center with Kaden Moore sliding to right guard.

Dunn told us that he is looking to make his decision after he takes all his official visits and had this to say about what he's looking for in his next school

"I’m looking for a winning culture as well as a supportive fan base, and the opportunity to come make an instant impact on a program with my skill set," Dunn said.

The transfer portal has fired back up with the second window open as the Hokies are already poised to host one of their top OL targets in Peyton Dunn.

4/17 Update

Following further conversations between Dunn and the Hokies today, the UL Monroe transfer will no longer visit Virginia Tech this weekend. From what we have been hearing, this seems like it was a mutual decision to end consideration in either direction at least for the time being.

With Tech cooling their interest in Dunn, their focus likely is more on App State Freshman All-American C Troy Everett and Tulsa starting RT Jaden Muskrat among other available offensive linemen in the transfer portal.
