According to CBS Sports/247 Sports' Matt Zenitz, Virginia Tech is hiring Georgia State Director of Player Personnel Maleak Bryant to its football staff in the player personnel department.

Bryant has been Georgia State's Director of Player Personnel since 2025. He is early in his career in player personnel, but having a lead role in that realm should certainly make him a valuable addition as he jumps to working in a Power 4 player personnel department.

During his time at Georgia State, Bryant likely played a role in them being able to retain WR Ted Hurst, a 2026 NFL Draft third round pick who tested the transfer portal waters after a 2024 season where he had 56 catches for 961 yards and nine touchdowns but returned to Georgia State despite serious Power 4 interest.

He also has helped Georgia State put together top 90 recruiting classes in the 2026 and 2027 cycles as of now, an impressive achievement given Georgia State's 4-20 record over the past two seasons.

VT hasn't formally announced the move just yet, so it is unknown what his role will be. Regardless, VT is getting ahead on building out its player personnel staff further well before recruiting flip season heats up and the next transfer portal cycle begins in January.
