Brewer comes to Blacksburg after spending the past two seasons as the WRs coach at Maryland. He is replacing Glenwood Ferebee and pairing with James Johnson in leading Virginia Tech's high school relations within the recruiting department.
Brewer has coached at either a Power 5 program or in the NFL since 2000 with stops during that time at North Carolina (2000-04), Oklahoma State (2005-10), Ole Miss (2011), North Carolina (2012-17), Philadelphia Eagles (2018), Louisville (2019-21), and Maryland (2022-23). He played his college football at Wake Forest from 1983-86.
There's no doubt that Brewer has tons of recruiting experience in this region and should prove to be a great asset to the Hokies' recruiting operations and relationships within the footprint given his career path. He's also proven to be a great recruiter, landing plenty of big time talents in North Carolina like Dyami Brown, and in general like Dez Bryant.
Brewer also is a very good WRs coach and former co-offensive coordinator who brings way more than just recruiting acumen and relationships with high schools in North Carolina into the building.
It's also impressive that the Hokies were able to poach a sitting Power 4 assistant for a recruiting staffer role. Yes, Brewer is on the older end of things, but that's still quite impressive and says a lot about what those in the coaching industry think about the trajectory of Virginia Tech under Brent Pry.
