The Hokies are joined by Penn State, Iowa, and Oklahoma State in what is unsurprisingly a decision coming down to four of collegiate wrestling’s best programs. He is set to announce his decision tomorrow with Tech obviously in a strong position for him.
VT hosted Bassett on a visit this past fall and have since been a serious contender in his recruitment. Bassett has taken several other visits since then yet VT has withstood them all to reach this point.
Bassett is one of the best high school wrestling prospects in a long time and seems certain to be a superstar wherever he lands. He wrestles at 144 in high school which could lead to him wrestling at either 149, 157, or 165 in high school. It’s very possible that Bassett ends up being the heir to Caleb Henson at 157 if he chooses the Hokies.
VT has landed their fair share of top 5-10 overall recruits in the country over the years, but Bassett would most likely be the biggest recruiting victory in program history.
