2024 TE Luca Puccinelli out of private powerhouse Benedictine the Richmond area has already emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top tight end targets for the 2024 class. When asked which schools are currently standing out in his recruitment, the Hokies were among those mentioned while sharing some insights on his current recruitment plans.
"Virginia Tech, Duke, South Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia are probably the most aggressive to date. We are going to get through January and then sit down and probably begin to schedule official visits," Puccinelli said.
He had this to say about why the Hokies are currently standing out for him.
"VT is the in-state school that I’ve probably visited more than any others. I’ve had good conversations with their staff on each visit. Facilities are great and the atmosphere really stands out. The fan base is terrific," Puccinelli said.
If you need more proof that Puccinelli is a high priority for the Hokies, look no farther than the fact that head coach Brent Pry is taking a lead role for VT here in addition to offensive coordinator/TEs coach Tyler Bowen. He had this to say about his relationship with Brent Pry.
"Pry is my guy! He’s a pretty funny guy. We have had some good laughs. His personality and approach towards Tech football is great. He will be successful. I see his vision and like it," Puccinelli said.
He had this to say about his relationship with Tyler Bowen.
"It's good. Coach Bowen brings a lot of experience and knowledge. He has a coaching style that I’m very receptive too. He’s also a great family guy and I like that a lot," Puccinelli said.
Just based on the schools heavily involved in his recruitment, you can see that Puccinelli is a big time talent with the three-star TE having this to say about what his strengths and weaknesses are.
"My strengths are my athleticism and size. I’m tough to cover and I can block a DE/DT/LB or C. My Dad played college football along with my older brother and younger brother. We are a football family. I have a really good football IQ. I’ve got great hands as well. Get me the ball!! I don’t drop anything! No dropped balls all season! I need to continue to get faster! That’s the biggest challenge as I continue to develop. I’m focused more than ever on weights and speed," Puccinelli said.
For now, Luca Puccinelli is still fairly early on in his recruitment but after a strong 2023 class in Richmond, the Hokies are positioned well early on for one of the 804's top 2024 talents.
