Virginia Tech "At The Top" for Harvard First Team All-Ivy League OL Transfer Mason Williams

Corps Fans 1 VT Miami 2022 HT

Offensive line is the top priority for the Virginia Tech Hokies in this transfer portal window with Tech extending an offer to Harvard OL grad transfer Mason Williams this week.

Williams was a First Team All-Ivy League offensive lineman this past working primarily at guard for the Crimson. The Hokies join an offer list that also includes Stanford, UCF, East Carolina, Appalachian State, Troy, Colorado State, Georgia State, and Central Michigan.

He had this to say about his reaction to receiving a Virginia Tech offer.

"I was surprised and excited. I wasn’t even in contact with them until this (Thursday) morning and got the offer hours later," Williams said.

The offer came during a "good" phone conversation with offensive analyst Jeff Carpenter.

Williams added that he is working to schedule a visit to Virginia Tech soon with Rivals reporting that he will visit Tech next weekend though I have not been able to directly confirm that at the moment. Additionally, Williams is visiting Colorado State this weekend as he told us and visited East Carolina last weekend according to Rivals as well.

So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where VT stands in it?

"I think my timeline for making decision roughly stays the same. I want to decide within the next three weeks. I’ll need to visit to get a true feel for the program and school, but it definitely stands up at the top as of now," Williams said.

Williams added that he would agree with the assessment that Virginia Tech is his leader adding this about why that's the case.

"I think it’s a great opportunity for me to come in and compete for a starting job right away and play in one of the most historical programs in one of the most prestigious conferences in the sport," Williams said.

There's no doubt that Williams would have the opportunity to come in and immediately compete for the starting job at right guard. Given his pedigree, Williams may be considered the favorite albeit it would be a fascinating competition between him Jesse Hanson, and Bob Schick.

As Williams mentioned, he's looking to make a decision in the next few weeks as to where he'll play his final season of college football. He had this to say about what the key factors will be in his recruitment.

"I'm looking to play up against better competition in the Power 5 and an opportunity to compete for a starting role immediately," Williams said.

Keep an eye on Mason Williams as Virginia Tech looks to land one of the top available offensive linemen in the transfer portal.
