A big reason for the national hype around the 2024 Virginia Tech Football team is the immense amount of quality returning production on this team.
This is highlighted by an offense that returns just about everyone except TE Dae’Quan Wright while also having two previous high-level starters in WR Ali Jennings and TE Nick Gallo return after missing most, if not all, of last season. Having that many returning contributors led to the Hokies being ranked #1 in offensive returning production and fourth in overall returning production by ESPN analyst Bill Connolly’s returning production metric.
What makes this even better is the fact that unlike 2022, the Hokies have lots of high-level playmakers back with Kyron Drones at QB; Bhayshul Tuten and Malachi Thomas at RB; Jaylin Lane, Da’Quan Felton, Jennings, Stephen Gosnell, and Ayden Greene at WR; and Nick Gallo and Benji Gosnell at TE. Add in four returning starters on the offensive line including some talented younger guys like Xavier Chaplin among them plus most of Tech’s young backups being back and that’s a strong offensive group.
This gives the Hokies a unique combination of talent and continuity that is rare especially in the transfer portal era where roster turnover is plentiful. For star quarterback Kyron Drones, this isn’t something he is taking for granted at all.
