Tomorrow is a big day in the recruiting world as coaches can initiate contact with 2022 recruits for the first time at midnight. That should start to give us some more clarity on who the top targets for Virginia Tech and others will be at least initially in the 2022 cycle.

With that said, here's the latest edition of our Virginia Tech football recruiting notes.

2022 4* DL Mykel Williams

Four-star defensive lineman Mykel Williams is one of the best recruits at his position in the Southeast for the 2022 class with plenty of schools showing interest in him.

That includes Virginia Tech.

Williams told us that he is hearing periodically from the Hokies with RBs coach Adam Lechtenberg currently leading the charge in Williams' recruitment. Williams added that he has a "good" relationship so far, a good sign for Tech's early position in his recruitment.

In terms of his future position, Williams told us that the Hokies are currently pursuing him as a defensive end though he definitely could end up at defensive tackle at the collegiate level. Defensive end is where Rivals and ESPN are currently evaluating him while 247 Sports is evaluating him as a defensive tackle.

Williams is sure to have tons of schools contacting him at midnight tonight with Virginia Tech almost certain to be among that group.

2022 4* WR/TE Jaleel Skinner

Jaleel Skinner has been a top offensive target for Virginia Tech for a little bit with TEs coach James Shibest, the area recruiter in South Carolina, and assistant Corey Fuller leading the charge in his recruitment.

Skinner told us that he has a "pretty solid" relationship with Shibest and that Tech's TEs coach is "consistent with communicating" with him. Additionally, Skinner told us that he has a "solid" relationship with Fuller.

There's going to be plenty of competition for Skinner with the Hokies among the contenders along schools like Florida, Michigan, LSU, Florida State, and Oregon while in-state South Carolina also is definitely a threat.

Skinner is a very intriguing prospect with many teams pursuing him as a wide receiver yet some recruiting sites; including 247 Sports and Rivals, currently list him as a tight end as he is the perfect example of the hybrid, jumbo receiver.

As 2022 recruiting jumps into high gear tonight, expect Virginia Tech to be among the many schools to be in contact with Jaleel Skinner.

3* OT Ryan O'Hair

Virginia Tech is still looking to use at least one of their few remaining high school spots for the 2021 class on an offensive tackle with three-star Ryan O'Hair being a name to watch.

O'Hair has recently received follows from CBs coach Ryan Smith and recruiting assistant Beau Davidson in a sign that Tech is seriously evaluating O'Hair. Additionally, O'Hair has received interest from several FBS schools recently including Penn State, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Temple, Marshall, and Bowling Green.

Offensive line is definitely a spot where there can be lots of late bloomers with O'Hair appearing to fit that mold as someone who has grown from 6'6'' and 220 pounds to 6'8'' and 290 pounds just this offseason. That type of physical transformation into an offensive tackle prospect with ideal size that college coaches dream of.

Keep an eye on O'Hair as one of the top late blooming candidates in the 2021 class.
