Virginia Tech G Naheim Alleyne Enters the Transfer Portal

Virginia Tech saw a surprising second entry to the transfer portal today as talented guard Nahiem Alleyne has entered the transfer portal as first reported by Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

Alleyne enters the portal after being a starter for the Hokies for the past three seasons averaging 9.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 38.6% from the field including 38.7% from three-point range and 80.7% from the free-throw line.

Alleyne may have been up and down at times this past season, but he stepped up in some important moments including in Tech's big win against Notre Dame early in the season. He's also going to be remembered well not only for being a part of an ACC Tournament title team and two NCAA Tournament appearances, but also for his incredible performance against Florida in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

There's no doubt that Alleyne will be one of the best guards in the portal in the country and is certain to have lots of power conference interest. Alleyne may have been inconsistent at times, but the high-end talent is definitely there especially as someone who can create his own shot and be a dynamic offensive player when at his best.

Alleyne's departure opens up another scholarship that Tech could use in multiple directions though the top target will most likely be near five-star SF Tyrell Ward, a former Xavier signee who decommitted after the firing of Travis Steele. Ward has plenty of connections to Tech via his former high school head coach at DeMatha Mike Jones who is Tech's associate head coach.

Alleyne is somewhat of a surprise transfer portal entry unlike John Ojiako who just entered as first reported by Tech Sideline's David Cunningham. With that in mind, this could expand who the Hokies pursue in the transfer portal and mean they look to add a bigger wing in the portal or potentially evaluate the JUCO ranks as well.

We will have more as this story develops.
