Virginia Tech Hires ODU's Dwight Galt IV as Director of Strength & Conditioning

With the on-field staff just about all in place, Brent Pry is starting to add in some critical piecs for his off-the-field staff starting with hiring Old Dominion's Dwight Galt IV as their director of strength & conditioning.

Galt will replace Ben Hilgart as the head of strength & conditioning for the Hokies after spending three seasons in the same capacity as Director of Sports Performance at Old Dominion. Prior to that time, Galt was the assistant strength & conditioning coach at Penn State for seven seasons, overlapping with Brent Pry during his time at State College. He also spent one year as a S&C intern at Maryland after his playing career for the Terps and two seasons in different roles at South Carolina.

While this may not seem like big news, this is a very important hire for Brent Pry as the strength & conditioning coach not only plays a large role in setting the program's tone, but also becomes the de facto head coach at times when coaches are limited in the contact that they can have with players during certain parts of the offseason due to NCAA rules.

Seeing Pry go with someone like Galt who he has a past relationship with shouldn't be a surprise and should help Pry in establishing the identity he wants for his VT football program.

We will have more as this story develops.
