Virginia Tech "Increasing the Gap" for Three-Star WR Lamar Booker Jr

Lamar Booker Jr 2022 VT Visit

Virginia Tech is looking to put together another strong class out of Richmond after doing well there in the 2023 class. A key piece to building that may be three-star WR Lamar Booker Jr who told us that he had a "great" visit for Monday night's Big Dawg Junior Day surrounding the VT men's basketballs 78-75 win over Duke.

So what made it a "great" visit for him?

"Nothing in particular, it’s just always good to see (WRs) coach (Fontel) Mines and (head) coach (Brent) Pry," Booker said.

For all the flair that Junior Day visits have, the fact that the best part for Booker is spending time with Tech's coaches is quite good to say the least.

He added that his conversations with Pry and Mines were both "fun" during a visit that plenty of things to enjoy as Booker shared with us.

"I ate some Mission BBQ, played ping pong with my mom, talked to coaches, and watched the basketball game," Booker said.

So how did this visit impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it?

"Vt was already the top school so now they’re just increasing the gap between them and the number 2," Booker said.

That's a pretty strong statement from Booker with Duke likely being the top challenger given that Booker told us prior to his visit that VT and Duke were the "main ones" standing out for him. Part of the reason why VT is likely in the strong position they are in is because of the comfort he has in Blacksburg.

"I feel very comfortable (at VT) just because of the relationship I have with coach Mines and coach Pry," Booker said.

What's clear is that Virginia Tech is in a very strong position for Lamar Booker Jr who may be an early foundational piece of a strong 2024 class both in Richmond and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
