Virginia Tech saw multiple players enter the transfer portal Wednesday evening, the first day of winter workouts where transferring players likely did not attend. One of those players was redshirt freshman WR Jacoby Pinckney.

As stated above, Pinckney redshirted this past season after coming to Tech as a four-star WR who was a part of an impressive WR class that included four-star WR Tayvion Robinson, four-star Jaden Payoute, and three-star WR Elijah Bowick. Pinckney will have four years of eligibility though one of those will likely be spent sitting out per NCAA transfer rules.
There is no doubt that Pinckney's decision is definitely surprising especially given that there was plenty of excitement around Blacksburg after his arrival. Additionally, given Tech's desire for a deep receiving corps and only signing one receiver in the 2020 class so far, Tech seemed pretty confident in their young receivers being able to mostly all be quality players in Blacksburg including Pinckney.
However, Tech still is in good shape at wide receiver for the long haul with Robinson impressing last season, and Payoute and Bowick continuing to be promising prospects on the outside.
