Virginia Tech announced earlier this week that their game against James Madison scheduled for 2025 has been moved to 2026 with Wofford replacing JMU on the Hokies' 2025 schedule.

Also appears that the #Hokies will be facing Wofford in 2025 on the date they were previously scheduled to face JMU according to https://t.co/ptWQa2PJJn. Not sure if that was reported previously or not https://t.co/gZu5cctz7X
The news came as James Madison announced that they were adding a 2025 road trip to Louisville to their non-conference schedule. With the addition of Wofford to the 2025 schedule and JMU moving into the 2026 opening, Virginia Tech's non-conference schedule is once again set through 2030.
Wofford joins a 2025 non-conference slate that includes a neutral site game in Atlanta against South Carolina plus home games against Vanderbilt and Old Dominion. JMU is now part of a 2026 non-conference schedule that includes a road game at Maryland plus home games against ODU and VMI.
It is disappointing to see the JMU game pushed back a year and the 2026 opening filled with indirectly by a 2025 matchup against Wofford. However, it shouldn't come as a major surprise given how the Hokies didn't have a FCS program on their schedule previously for 2025 with most Power 5 programs trying to have at least one yearly.
It is fair to be disappointed in the fact that Virginia Tech's biggest home non-conference games for the next four seasons are Maryland and probably JMU for various reasons over Vanderbilt and Rutgers. The good news is that the future slates are stronger with home non-conference games against Notre Dame, Alabama, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Maryland, BYU, and Arizona between 2028 and 2035.
