This will be Virginia Tech's second appearance in the Belk Bowl if this comes to fruition. The Hokies' previous appearance came in 2016 with Tech overcoming a 24-0 halftime deficit to beat Arkansas 35-24.
This shouldn't come as much of a shock as the Belk Bowl looked like the likely destination ever since the Hokies fell to Virginia. Virginia Tech would definitely be the best case scenario for selling tickets with Wake Forest having played more recently in Charlotte than the Hokies.
While the Music City Bowl seemed to be the other bowl that Tech had a good chance of going to, Louisville always made more sense as a more regional option for that bowl compared to the Hokies.
Of course, Virginia Tech hasn't played in Nashville in a long time so plenty could change. Additionally, if Virginia does not make the final CFP top 25, it is possible that the Hokies could be chosen over UVA for the Orange Bowl's ACC spot, but that seems very unlikely.
