Virginia Tech Makes the Final 5 for Four-Star WR Keylen Adams

Keylen Adams 3 June 2022 VT Visit

Four-star WR Keylen Adams out of Virginia Beach is one of Virginia Tech's top overall targets for the 2024 class. The Hokies have had plenty of traction with Adams who has visited Tech multiple times and included VT in his previous top 4 before expanding back out upon receiving some new offers.

Now, Adams has trimmed his list back down to 5 with the Hokies once again making the cut.

Tech was joined by Alabama, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Pittsburgh in the final 5 for Adams with his decision looming on July 13th. Loads of notable programs who offered Adams missed the cut here including Penn State, Michigan, Florida State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Miami, West Virginia, Auburn, NC State, Duke, North Carolina, UVA, and more

On3's Chad Simmons is reporting that Adams has set four official visits including one to Virginia Tech on the weekend of June 23rd-25th. He also has scheduled visits to Pittsburgh (June 2nd-4th), Ohio State (June 9th-11th), and Alabama (June 16th-18th) as well per On3 while he also took an unofficial visit to South Carolina this weekend.

Adams is one of the best wide receivers on the East Coast and a consensus top 3 overall recruit in Virginia this cycle. That shouldn't come as a surprise as he shined on a loaded Green Run HS offense in the 757 this past fall with 55 catches for 1,064 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Now some may feel this is an uphill battle given the involvement of Ohio State and Alabama which is probably fair given the recruiting machines those 2 have become. Pittsburgh has also had lots of traction with Adams for a while similar to Tech though the Hokies have seemed better positioned than the Panthers in general. South Carolina also has some momentum following Adams' visit though they probably need to find a way to get him back on campus in June for an official visit to strengthen their chances.

However, this is one of those recently rare situations where the Hokies have the type of relationships and in-roads that still give them a legitimate chance. WRs coach Fontel Mines has proven to be a recruiting ace for the Hokies and has deep recruiting ties along the I-64 corridor while Brent Pry has been personally taking a large role in recruiting Adams showing how important of a target the star 757 wide receiver is for the Hokies.

Tech has also hosted Adams multiple times during the Brent Pry era including for an elite Junior Day back in January which went quite well.

Having the last official visit before Adams' decision is definitely a big plus for the Hokies even if that commitment won't come till a few weeks after his trip to Blacksburg. Data shows that the team with the last visits tends to land the commitment more often than any other visit in the order though that discrepancy decreases as the number of official visits increases.

If the Hokies were to land Keylen Adams, it would be one of the biggest recruiting victories for Virginia Tech in recent memory and certainly the biggest recruiting victory of the Brent Pry era to date.

The stage is set for a recruiting war over the next two months with the Hokies facing some stiff competition in their pursuit of four-star 757 WR Keylen Adams.
